Urgent Care

During office hours, we provide emergency and urgent care right away. We are open seven days a week, but if an emergency happens after hours, we recommend that you seek the services of one of the 24-hour emergency pet clinics listed below. They will coordinate care with us, and we will provide necessary follow-up care.

When is it a Pet Emergency?

In a critical or acute situation, the need for urgent or emergency care is obvious. Other times, owners may be unsure, wondering if it can wait. You know your pet best and if you believe your pet is sick or hurt, please seek out emergency services.

Types of common emergency situations requiring urgent care:

  • Bite wounds
  • Bleeding
  • Collapse, fainting, or seizures
  • Sudden changes in ability to walk and paralysis
  • Extreme changes in behavior
  • Difficulty or noisy breathing
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Trauma, such as being hit by a car or falling out of a window
  • Ingestion of any toxins or poisons
  • Repeated vomiting and diarrhea for more than 24 hours
  • Trouble giving birth

What are some tips to ensure our pets' safety from toxic substances?

Dr. Hebah Mohamed

I have three tips to make sure that we're taking the necessary precautions to keep our pets safe.

Tip 1: Keep toxic substances out of reach.

This means making sure that we're locking up any medication and keeping our cleaning substances, such as disinfectants, in enclosed areas that our pets do not have access to.

Tip 2: Be careful with plants and foods.

Some common household plants can actually be incredibly toxic to our animals. Lilies, for example, are a household favorite, but they can actually harm a lot of our kittens. So, make sure that we're keeping them in out-of-reach areas that our pets don't have access to and be conscious of what food we're leaving on the table, such as garlic, onions, and raisins, which can actually be detrimental to our pets' health.

Tip 3: Have a plan for emergencies.

I recommend that you guys keep your veterinarian's phone number readily accessible. If we have any questions on whether or not a substance or food could be potentially toxic to our animals, I usually recommend that we avoid feeding them that. But if you guys want a comprehensive list of toxins or food items that could potentially be toxic to our animals, I recommend the Animal Poison Control website, as they have a full comprehensive list of items that can very commonly cause injury to our pets.
